Overview

ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking an expert in Food Dehydration for an upcoming volunteer assignment in Kyrgyzstan. Local agribusinesses are requesting volunteer assistance to expand their products by adding dehydrated fruits to their local markets. They would like to learn best practices for dehydrating produce effectively and learning better methods for packaging and storage to maximize shelf life. The assignment will last for approximately 2 weeks in country, in addition to preparation prior to departure. Travel and living expenses will be provided.

***As part of the Farmer-to-Farmer Consortium, this assignment is made possible through USAID funding. In accordance to USAID guidelines, any candidates submitted for consideration under this project must have a valid US passport or Green Card.***

Responsibilities

  • Meet with local agribusinesses to review their current products.
  • Discuss dehydration options for fruits such as apples, apricots, grapes, tomatoes, etc.
  • Provide hands on training on fruit dehydration. 
  • Review local resources for packaging and make recommendations that will help extend shelf life. 

Qualifications

Volunteer Qualifications:

  • University degree in Food Technology, Food Processing, or another related topic.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in food processing.
  • Proven experience dehydrating food.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Teams and WhatsApp, etc.
