Local women's groups are requesting volunteer assistance to learn best practices in soap making. The selected volunteer will provide a demonstration of making soap, help host businesses diversify their product line using locally available ingrediants and improve product packaging. The USAID Zambia Enterprise Development and Growth Enhanced (EDGE) Activity is facilitating investment in high-potential agricultural SMEs in emerging markets through innovative financial products to a) generate both a financial return and positive impact for smallholder farmers and rural communities and b) increase the competitiveness of SMEs and their products. EDGE seeks 1 graduate student to be our 2021 Summer Volunteer for a 10-12 week opportunity working with the Lusaka-based USAID Zambia EDGE Activity. The Summer Volunteer will be an integral member of the EDGE Team working directly with EDGE’s Zambia-based Social Inclusion and Innovation Director, Monitoring, collaboratively with the Evaluation and Learning Senior Director, and in close collaboration with the Chief of Party.  The Zambia EDGE Project is requesting a Gender and Development Volunteer to carry out a business specific gender needs assessment with to two Small and Medium Enterprises. A farmers cooperative is requesting volunteer assistance to provide guidance for more consistant fruit and vegetable dehydration as well as how to best package the dried products to extend shelf-life. They currently grow and dry plums and apricots but they would like to expand to include apples, pears, tomato, peppers and eggplant.  Due to the current pandemic, international travel has been postponed until further notice. Therefore, this assignment will take place remotely from the USA and in collaboration with a local volunteer who will provide hands on trainings to the cooperative members. We anticipate the time commitment to be 1 week or less for the US volunteer, and 2 weeks for the local volunteer.

ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a Greenhouse Flower Production Specialist for an upcoming volunteer assignment in the Republic of Georgia. Local farmers are requesting volunteer assistance to improve their flower production and overall greenhouse management. The host farmer currently utilizes a large variety of high-quality flower cultivars including celosia, salvia, zinnia, gazania, petunia, among others. Their greenhouse rests on 1.5 hectares of land where they can grow up to 3.5 million flowers year round with a staff of 30 people.  Due to the current pandemic, all international travel has been cancelled for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the selected volunteer from the USA will work remotely and in collaboration with a local volunteer who can provide hands on training to the host participants. The anticipated time commitment is 1 week for the US volunteer and 2 weeks for the local volunteer.
